Today we bring you a band that asks "Shoes? For who?" That's right, I'm talking about Go Barefoot, my favourite band in this beautiful land. These guys are seriously talented musicians, and I'm not just saying that because they're my friends. Go Barefoot brings us a rare and unique blend of distinctly South African sounds, indie folk rock with kwela sensibilities that just make you feel so happy.
Not only do their tasty jams make you dance like Madiba did the day he got outta jail, they also manage to capture a sense of the eclectic identity that our diverse generation is beginning to define through the mixing and merging of cultures. Last week the gents treated us with a beautiful new song that takes you on a sunset road trip you wish would never end, check out Drive below:
Do yourself a favour and catch these guys live for a great time and a sweet boogie. Also, check out their 2015 Routes EP below, and visit their Soundcloud page for more amazing choons. Support these local artists doing big tings and blessing us with such sweet vaaibs!
British boys Bloc Party have released the first single off their upcoming 5 track EP entitled The Nextwave Sessions due out in August, which was apparently recorded whilst on tour for their 2012 album Four. The release of new Bloc Party material so soon after the release of their last great album is exciting news, made even more exciting by just how good the new single sounds. 'Ratchet' is a bonafied (bloc) party starter and features a rad bassline and rapid snares joined by rough guitar riffs and cheeky fast paced lyrical delivery akin to Helicopter. It was produced by Hot Chip's Dan Carey and his upbeat dance influence can really be heard. Good things are expected from this EP based on this rocking tune!
Super rad French record label Kitsune has just released the third edition to their compilation series Kitsune Parisien - a showcase of all the up and coming talents on the label and compiled by the label owner himself. Hear all the great new and exciting sounds from the French capital and elsewhere on this compilation, from electronic beats to French indie vibes. I have always been a big fan of the French electronic and house scene, they have their own unique flavour (much like French toast) thanks in part to the legacy of French superstars such as Daft Punk, Justice, Phoenix and others.
The compilation packs some very decent tracks, all from artists relatively unknown outside of France, so it's a great way to peep the scene. Laidback electro-pop, funky electronica, Phoenix-like indie rock and more French quisine to satisfy the ears. My personal favourite track of the bunch is Wolf by Pyramid, a funky French electro track with some tasty synths and drum machine work.
You can download the album or the mix through the links in the player above, or find it somewhere for free on the web with a bit of searching. As a bonus here is a link to a great French website that posts new French electronica each week, or as they call it 'French Touch music'.
