Sunny Lax

Sunny Lax aka Levente Márton is a Hungarian trance music producer who is signed to Above & Beyond's label Anjunabeats. He's been around a long time and has had plays of his tracks on the worlds most popular dance music radio shows like Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance and Above & Beyond's Trance Around The World and Group Therapy.

I love trance. Alot. And Sunny Lax makes trance that makes me very happy. And if you love trance, it will definitely make you happy too! Below are my three favourite tracks of his. His Isla Margarita EP containing Isla Margarita and Naida and his latest release, a remix called Defying Gravity. Spicy!

Bitch, Dont Kill My Vibe Remixes

What do you get when the King of Hip-Hop remixes arguably the best rapper in world at the moment's track? You get something that SSSB like very very much. There was a lot of speculation about this remix but its official, it's out and its sick! The remix features two new verses from Kendrick. The second verse is destroyed by the one and only Jay-Z. Hopefully in the future these two will collaborate on many more tracks. Don't Kill Vibes... Bitch.

I also came across a remix from Ricky Rozay. It features the first verse from Rozay and the rest of the track is the same as the original. Pretty cool but nothing like the official remix

Kavinsky - Outrun

At this stage in the blog's history, my obsession with French electronica is probably becoming blatantly apparent. This week's dose of French goodness comes in the form of a new album by producer Kavinsky called Outrun. Although he has been around for many years, this is his debut LP and contains a few previously released tracks.

The album (and Kavinsky's music as a whole) has a very distinct sound and feel to it and is somewhat conceptually driven. The concept is that Kavinsky was killed in a road accident in 1986 after crashing his Ferrari Testarossa, and has now come back as an electronic-music-making zombie. Rather far-fetched, but it helps in understanding the sound. His music almost sounds as if it could be a soundtrack for an 80's car-chase movie, and when listening to any one of the tracks it is almost impossible not to picture an old school red Ferrari driving at full speed in the night time through the streets. Not quite for the clubs but the sound is really appealing to me, he has really captured the 80's vibes but in a cool modern way and this music (personally) seems perfect for cruising around in your car at night wearing sunglasses (sunglasses not recommended). Not every track on the album is a winner, some get rather repetitive, but standouts include Odd Look (co-produced by SebastiAn), ProtoVision, First Blood, and of course the unmistakable 2010 electronic classic Nightcall.

I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl

Found this goodie the other day by surf-rock punk type band Wavves. The title pretty much says it all, because I think deep down we all wanna meet Dave Grohl, but especially me, mainly me, I really wanna meet Dave Grohl. Thanks Wavves for turning my dream into a great song! Listen below:

Light Blue Lupe

One of SuperSonic SpeakerBox's favourite MC's, Lupe Fiasco, has just dropped a brand new track on us like a net on top of a frightened bear. After releasing his highly anticipated 4th album Food & Liquor 2 at the end of last year, which I was personally rather disappointed by, with only a handful of standout singles that left the rest of the album sounding mediocre, not typical of the high standards set by Lupe in his previous three critically aclaimed records. Nevertheless Lupe's lyrical content and magnificently conceptualised raps were on point as always, and the album was nominated in the Best Rap album category at the Grammy awards (not that we care). Anyways the album was planned to be released in two parts, leaving us hoping for more Fiasco fire with the release of the other half. But alas, that has now been cancelled, and a new album has been announced for this year called Tetsuo & Youth. The genius that is Lupe is always toying with the idea of quitting music, but with a creativity and talent as tremendous as his he simply cant seem to resist making more cerebral rap music for our ears and minds, and we're not complaining.

I digress, the point of this post is that he has released a new track called Light Blue. Not quite sure if it will be on the new album, but I quite like the sound of it. The beat is quite tight, electronic, bassy and head-bounce inducing. The lyrics will pass over the head of the average ignoramus hip hop fan, but that's exactly how we like it. Mr Fiasco, never stop making the intelligent and infectious hip hop that you do so well!

Birdy Nam Nam

The French electronic producers with a very silly name have just recently dropped an EP called Defiant Order with a title track of the same name featuring several remixes too. Although Defiant Order is actually kind of old (off their 2011 album) the EP packs some decently delicious remixes, specifically the one done by groovy French disco boy, Breakbot. The original track is still an earfull though and is a rolling electro type track that pinches you on the bum while you're dancing on the dancefloor.

On Repeat. Tunage of the Week

Top down chillin'. Ideal for some new tunes. There were a few tunes that were on repeat for this week.

Mac Miller feat Kendrick lamar and Iman Omari - Fight The Feeling

Mac Miller makes some of the laid back hip-hop I've ever heard. And it's sick! Fight the Feeling is off his independent mixtape Macadelic released in March 2012. Produced by Iman Omari who also lays down the hook and Kendrick with another verse. I don't even need to talk about Kendrick's mad skills. Overall, sick track besides for the porno part at the end (good heavens!)

BT - Skylarking (Original Mix)

Easily one of the beautiful and well produced progressive house/trance tracks I've ever heard. BT has been around forever and you can hear it in his production quality. Skylarking is almost 11 minutes long and it's a masterpiece. And that's the end of that.

Dinka & Leventina - Elements (2013 Reload)

Dinka and Leventina , two Swiss Dj's have taken their classic progressive track from 2010 and turned it into a track suitable for 2013. Its absolutely crazy!

Gabe - Downer (Original Mix)
This one is for all the deep house fans. This sick organ based deep house track has been played many times in the last week. You definitely have to turn the bass up for this one!

Daft Punk - No End (We Plants Are Happy Plants Remix)

Mmmm... Intersting events... If you don't know anything about the hype around the new Daft Punk album dropping sometime this year, then let me inform you. The mysterious, robotic men Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter known as Daft Punk signed a new record deal with Columbia records and disco-funk icon Nile Rodgers said this "The next time (April 2013) I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people's eardrums." There have also been other names that have been confirmed to have worked on the album which seems almost certain to drop this year.

The last time these French electronic superstars dropped an album was in 2005 in "Human after All". Its been way too long. As if this wasn't enough to get people excited, Daft Punk released a 15 second teaser on Saturday Night Live which could be a preview of whats to come on the album. This clip caused a huge internet and social network buzz with #NoEnd even trending on twitter. There have been DJ's that have taken that 15 second teaser and have created extended versions and remixes, most notably We Plants Are Happy Plants. However we have no idea what to expect from these guys.

SSSB are huge fans of these Daft Punks and hopefully this album will live up to the hype surrounding it. #NoEnd

Below is the 15 second teaser played on SNL and the extended version that We Plants Are Happy Plants have created.

Moonbeam - The Random

So, Moonbeam have released another album called "The Random". And thats exactly what it is. It's the group's fourth album but it is also their first film score for the directorial debut of Moonbeam's Pavel Khaleev. For those of you who don't know what a film score is, its the music that is played during the film.

The album comprises of 12 original tracks which are the film score versions and then there are also 10 club mixes of most of the original tracks featuring vocals from Moonbeam favourites such as Avis Vox, Leusin, Matvey Emerson and Blackfeel White. Pretty wicked. Moonbeam make some pretty freaky music but their stuff is amazing because its so different to anything you'll ever hear. Although they're classified as "Trance" I tend to disagree. They are their own genre.
Mixmag said this about the album "With its exacting production, stunning FX, moody, beautiful songs, dreamscape synthery and add-in movie appeal, ‘The Random’ has the makings of a game-changer for Moonbeam” –  10/10 - Album of the Month, Mixmag - Feb 2013

At the moment I can't say that it's my favourite album of theirs but hopefully it will gow on me more. Favourite tracks on the album? Only You feat Jacob A and Together feat Blackfeel White (Club Mix). Only You has a very different dark "chillstep" kinda vibe to it that I've never heard from Moonbeam before. Really like it. Together (Club Mix) is a lot more trancey and has a very trippy up-tempo drop. RAVE!

Give it a listen!

The video for Only You has a man, a boat and a woman on a horse. Random.

The trailer for this album/movie is also one of the freakiest/most random/crazy but cool things I've ever seen. Definitely worth watching!
